About James

James Milne has spent more than 30 years working across civil, quarrying, transport, and environmental sectors, and over that time has turned his hand to just about everything.

He started out as an apprentice marine mechanic before running his own transport business, gaining a strong grounding in reliability, logistics, and looking after clients properly. From there, his work moved into large-scale civil and quarry operations, and eventually into environmental management.

For nine years, James worked as an Environmental Advisor for Stevenson Aggregates and Fulton Hogan, supporting environmental compliance across major quarry operations. He designed stormwater and sediment control systems, worked closely with Auckland Council, iwi, and local communities, and led the installation of one of New Zealand’s first online environmental monitoring systems.

He comes at environmental work from a practical point of view. He understands how sites run, what’s realistic, and how to get things done properly without overcomplicating it.

Based in Kaiwaka, James lives on a lifestyle block with his wife and their dogs, and is happiest working outdoors. That connection to the land, and the belief that it should be looked after properly, runs through everything he does.

Calm under pressure, easy to deal with, and focused on doing the job properly.
